Privacy Policy & Network Transparency
Last updated: October 2026
Tweezing is local-first desktop software. Your media is never uploaded to the cloud. Below is an exhaustive disclosure of every network call made by the application.
1. Version Check & Anonymous Install Signal
The desktop app checks https://api.tweezing.app/v1/release.json for version updates. At most once per day, it sends an anonymous heartbeat to https://api.tweezing.app/v1/ping containing only {install_id, version, channel, os}. Your IP address is never stored or logged. Both features can be disabled in Settings > General.
2. Local Whisper Model Downloads
When transcribing speech for the first time, your chosen speech-to-text model is downloaded once directly from official upstream sources (Hugging Face or OpenAI model repositories). Once downloaded, transcription runs 100% offline on your local hardware.
3. Direct AI Calls Using Your Own API Key (BYOK)
When utilizing AI features like semantic search or transcript assistance, requests are transmitted directly from your machine to the AI provider's official endpoints (e.g. Google Gemini API) using your own API key. Tweezing servers never proxy, log, or inspect your keys or queries.
4. Media Files Never Leave Your Device
No video recordings, audio files, cut points, or projects are ever uploaded. All media decoding, waveform generation, DuckDB vector indexing, and video exports run exclusively on your local computer.
